Introduction to Infrastructure Resilience
Professional engineers and administrators are welcome to attend the four-hour seminar free of charge on infrastructure resilience to extreme events. This is an opportunity to obtain 3 PDHs free of charge. The first seminar for professional engineers on infrastructure resilience was held on from 1 pm to 5 pm on Oct. 28, 2016 at Neville 002 in Lehigh University. We will hold other seminars on infrastructure resilience in the coming few years.

1:00pm to 1:20pm Registration and Welcome Remarks
1:20pm to 2:00pm Infrastructure Resilience to Natural Hazards
This presentation will review the concept of disaster resilience, available policies and guidelines to implement resilience in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance processes of infrastructure systems, to enhance the performance of our infrastructure.
2:00pm to 2:40pm ArcGIS Application to Regional Resilience Analysis after Natural Hazards
This presentation will provide regional resilience analysis with the application of ArcGIS. Economic and social impacts to local residents are discussed in terms of regional maps.
2.40pm to 3:00pm Refreshment and Networking Break
3:00pm to 3:40pm Quantifying Resilience of Transportation Infrastructure after Earthquake
This presentation will provide methods for the optimization of the restoration after an earthquake, in order to enhance resilience of bridges and transportation network at both component-level and network-level.
3:40pm to 4:10pm Incorporating Resilience in Seismic Design of Building Structures
This presentation will discuss guidelines and methods to assess and improve the seismic resilience of building structures. Event-tree analysis will be used to assist in decision making for restoration of buildings after earthquake.
4:10pm to 4:40pm Enhancing Understanding on Interdependencies among Infrastructure systems
This presentation will show the strong interdependencies among infrastructure systems and analysis models to describe and quantify such interdependencies, in order to enhance resilience of infrastructure systems to natural hazards.
4:40pm to 5:00pm Closing Remarks
It is the responsibility of the registrant to determine if this presentation qualifies for PDHs based on requirements of the licensing Board in each state. This presentation has not been preapproved by any preapproving agency or board.
